Electric Service
Utility service in Grundy Center began in 1890 with the establishment of the first electric company. In 1909, J.B. Calderwood purchased the system, and in 1925 it was acquired by Northwestern Light & Power. In 1941, Grundy Center Municipal Utilities was founded, placing control of local utilities into the hands of the community, where it remains today.
Over the years, we have continued to invest in reliable infrastructure to support our electric system. Key upgrades, including major engine installations in 1963, 1973, and 1996, reflect an ongoing commitment to maintaining dependable service for homes and businesses.
Communication Services
While our roots are in electric service, we have grown alongside the needs of our customers. Internet service was introduced in 1996, followed by cable television in 1998 and landline telephone service in 2001.
